Samsung Omnia Pro B7330 appears
WMExperts
We’ve heard very little about the Samsung Omnia Pro B7320 since its announcement earlier this year. Enter the Omnia Pro , in the flesh, no less, with pics and specs from areamobile.de.
The specs:
- Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard (out of the box).
- 2.63-inch screen at 320𝘀.
- 1500mAh battery
- 320MB ROM
- And all the other 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.2MP camera and GPS goodness we’re used to.
The B7330 is said to be available in mid-October. Price and availability, however, are still unknown.

Microsoft trying to avoid 99-cent apps
WMExperts

Microsoft threw a little dev camp yesterday at the mother ship in Washington, and there was some interesting discussion regarding app prices in the upcoming Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
Said Loke Uei, of Microsoft’s Mobile Development Experience team (and a fan favorite around these parts) as reported by Techflash: [via Engadget]
"It’s up to you play your pricing, but we would definitely want to promote that you make more money selling applications than selling your application in a dollar store. … I know, 99 cents is interesting — yes, consumers like to pay 99 cents for applications. But 99 cents, come on, I think your app is worth more than that."
We’ve had many a drag-out fistfight rational discussion with our counterparts at The iPhone Blog over this one. (And their argument for a premium app store is worth discussing.) Consumers certainly win when apps are priced at 99 cents. Developers? Not so much. And when one app is priced at, say, $4.99 and a very similar app is priced at 99 cents, well, it’s easy to see who’s going to win that battle. Price doesn’t necessarily point to an app’s "worth."
One thing that certainly will be different with Microsoft’s app store (and, yes, we′re going to be repeating ourselves yet again here) is that a large number of the apps available at launch already are available today, and not at 99-cent price points.
Take Kinoma Play, for example. At $29.99 it’s one of the more expensive Windows Mobile applications we’ve bought — and worth every penny we paid. We have a hard time imagining the price dropping to $1 or even $5, just because it’s in Microsoft’s app store. (That said, some sort of Marketplace launch discount shouldn’t be out of the question.)
Microsoft’s point is this: Developers’ works are worth more than 99 cents, and they should be going for quality (as in greater revenue) over quantity (selling as many copies as possibly cheaply). And that’s why the Race to Market Challenge will have two winners in the paid category: one for most downloads, and the other for total revenue generated.

Custom ROMs for the Touch Pro 2!
WMExperts
It’s time, boys and girls. The tireless folks at XDA Developers have released the Hard SPL package for the HTC Rhodium, aka the Touch Pro 2. And that means custom ROMs can now be loaded on the Touch Pro 2.
Now’s the time when we tell you that if you’re going to be flashing ROMs, radios and bootloaders, you need to take extra care, read all the instructions, and don’t blame us if you skip a step that leaves your phone a smoking pile of plastic and shattered dreams. That’s unlikely, though, ‘cause you’re gonna read the directions, aren’t you? (And also give a read to our own George Ponder’s experiences with flashing ROMs.)
Now, head on over to XDA Developers and get flashing!
Review: GPS Weather Radar
WMExperts
We ran across a nifty weather application called GPS Weather Radar that’s been developed by XDA Developer’s Forum member avs777. It may very well be one of the most useful weather radar applications I’ve run across. If you travel and need access to the weather, this is one application you may not want to leave home without.
Follow the break for all the details on GPS Weather Radar.
<!–break–>
The concept is simple, use your phone’s GPS to identify your position, then pull up the closest radar site to your location. GPS Weather Radar allows you to zoom in (or out) on the radar image, loop the image, switch between radar, satellite IR, and satellite visible.
GPS Weather Radar will remember your last five GPS coordinates under the Settings Menu. If you’re unable to get a GPS fix, you can enter your location manually as well. So far, it’s been a very stable application with no hang-ups, hiccups or lock-ups experienced. You will need .Net 3.5 running on your Windows Mobile (professional) phone.
I like GPS Weather Radar a tad better than using my web browser to pull up radar off a weather site because it takes you directly to the radar. If I’m traveling, I don’t have to enter the local zip code then choose the local radar. All I have to do with GPS Weather Radar is tap "Update Location + Radar" and the app does the rest. Unless you update your location, GPS Weather Radar will return to your last recorded location.
If you need access to weather radar in an easy to use package, GPS Weather Radar is definitely worth a try.

Verizon launches entry-level Escapade world phone
Unwired View
Fist seen about two months ago, Verizon’s Escapade world phone is now official – although it looks like it’s not made by Pantech, as initially thought, but by PCD (Personal Communications Devices).
Presented by Verizon as a “must-have phone for globetrotters and jet-setters”, the Escapade is a rather simple clamshell that comes with dual band CDMA 1X and quad band GSM/GPRS (850/900/1800/1900) connectivity, as well as a pre-installed SIM card.
Other notable features include: 2 inch internal TFT display, 1.1 inch external CSTN screen, VZ Navigator capabilities, Mobile Web, Mobile Email, Bluetooth and a 2MP camera.

Verizon will sell the Escapade starting tomorrow, August 21, for as low as $29.99 on contract (after a $50.00 mail-in rebate).

CDMA HTC Hero approved by FCC – Sprint launch imminent?
Unwired View
OK, we’ve heard more than once about a possible HTC Hero release via Sprint, but there wasn’t any proof to sustain this… until now.
The FCC has just approved the “HTC HERO200”, which has both CDMA/EV-DO and GSM connectivity, so it’s highly probable that this is the Hero which will come to Sprint in the near future (or maybe to Verizon? hard to believe).
So it looks like Sprint will soon have two Android smartphones – the Hero and the QWERTY-equipped Samsung InstinctQ.

Interestingly, last month the FCC has also approved the HTC HERO130, which features AT&T 3G connectivity. Could it be that both AT&T and Sprint will release the Hero? Let’s wait and see.

Unwired View
Already available in France, the LG GD910 touchscreen watchphone will soon be released in the UK too – one month later than initially planned.
The LG G will be available for a limited time in the UK, and only via Orange.
Starting August 27, customers will be able to buy the GD910 at the Orange shop in Bond Street Station, Central London. In September, the watchphone will also be available online.
Featuring HSDPA, a scratch-resistant 1.43 inch display, video call camera, Bluetooth and voice command, the GD910 is one of the nicest watchphones on the market today.

Orange UK will offer the LG GD910 on Pay As You Go, for £500 (about €589 or $824).

Samsung M8000 Symbian S60v5 handset gets detailed. May never be launched
Unwired View
While still in development, the phones that became Samsung Jet S8000 and Samsung Omnia II , were part of the line of products under the “Cubic” codename.
And they had one more sibling - Symbian based full touch handset – in their midst. Samsung M8000.
Well, today Tweakers.net had dug up some more info about this new high end Symbian phone. As you may remember, it looks very similar to Jet and Omnia 2.
According to Samsung UAProfile, the new Symbian handset is running on S60v5 OS, has 640×360px resolution touchscreen display and standard S60 Webkit browser.
Since it is part of the same “Cubic” family, other specs should be similar to those handsets and include that fast 800 MHz Samsung CPU.
Unfortunately, Samsung may never be launched.
If what I am hearing from Eldar is correct (and he mentioned this several times in his podcasts and personal blog), Symbian based Samsung Cubic has been cancelled, when Samsung has decided to change it’s strategy and not release any more high end Symbian phones.
Which, considering that other Cubic phones have been announced more then 2 months ago, sounds true.

Samsung B3310 Leaked
Mobilewhack.com
From the look of the Samsung B3310, it looks like this phone is specifically made for her. Looking great in bright pink, it has vertical numbers on the side when the QWERTY keyboard is closed. This leaked photo of the Samsung B3310 is perfect for entry level messaging phones in demand and it even accommodates the usual social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Flickr.
There is no word on when this phone will actually hit the market although rumors are flying that it will come out in the middle of September.
